The Amazing Holiday Pregnancy Gift Idea That You Probably Haven’t Thought Of

I’m going to keep it real honest here, y’all. One of my least favorite aspects of pregnancy (besides the super fun symptoms like morning sickness and acid reflux) is receiving useless baby gifts.

I know, I know. Let me clarify that I’m incredibly grateful for the thought. I’m also incredibly grateful for having people in my life who are kind enough to bestow gifts upon our growing family. I really am. Not everyone has that, and I don’t take it for granted. I mean that whole-heartedly with every fiber of my being. And I still really don’t like useless baby gifts.

So how do you keep a holiday pregnancy gift meaningful and useful? Here’s one of my current favorite ideas (that I wish I had thought of during my pregnancies).

The Amazing Holiday Pregnancy Gift Idea That You Probably Haven’t Thought Of

One of my favorite holiday pregnancy gift ideas for a mama-to-be is both unexpected and impactful (which is why I love it): preserving newborn stem cells.

What is Newborn Stem Cell Preservation?

When a baby is born, the leftover umbilical cord blood is collected because it contains powerful stem cells for potential future medical use.

Why Do Families Preserve Newborn Stem Cells?

Preserved newborn stem cells are a perfect match to your child, and may even be a match for siblings or parents, providing the ability to use the cells for potential future uses depending on the condition and other factors.

And, cord blood stem cells have been used in the treatment of various cancers, and blood, immune, and metabolic disorders. Additionally, there is research in progress for potential future applications, like regenerative medicine.

Why Would Newborn Stem Cell Preservation Make a Great Holiday Gift?

When my partner and I went through our pregnancies, we were very interested in the idea of banking our babies’ cord blood and tissue. However, finances were a concern. We had no idea how much raising children would cost, and the thought of paying for cord blood banking seemed like an added expense that we couldn’t afford.

What we didn’t know is that Cord Blood Registry (CBR) has several options to help make it affordable. Had we known that you can actually create a gift registry for cord blood banking through, we would have absolutely set one up.

This way, family and friends can contribute to a meaningful gift that will last long after your baby has outgrown the newborn outfits and stuffed animals. It’s something that growing families will truly cherish for years beyond the holidays.
