Few T.V. shows make my heart as happy as Friends does. I know this is a shocking statement coming from a girl who grew up in the 90s, but sometimes bold statements need to be made. I. Love. Friends.
A few years ago a friend of mine posted a picture on Facebook of him sitting on the coach from Central Perk, one of the main sets from the show. Since seeing that picture, I was determined to get one of my very own. Sitting on the couch. Holding a coffee mug. Possibly snuggling up with my real-life significant other, if I could convince him to go with me. *Sigh*. The whole thing sounded almost too good to be true.
After very little research (aka Googling “See set from Friends” or something along those lines), I realized that the seeing the set and getting my picture would be easier than I expected. Here’s how I made it happen:
How to Visit Central Perk from Friends
Los Angeles, Not New York
Although the series is set in Manhattan, it was actually filmed on a sound stage in Los Angeles, California. The studio it was shot on, the fountain from the opening sequence, and, of course, the Central Perk set are all located at Warner Bros Studio in Burbank.
Studio Tour — At the End
The Warner Bros Studio Tour features lots of cool things, but easily my favorite part was being able to sit on the couch in Central Perk and have your picture taken (under the professional lighting, making the pictures a bit better quality).
The set will be one of the last things you see on your tour, as it’s located in the museum and gift shop, where you are dropped off after you drive around on your tour.
Do yourself a favor and book your tickets on Warner Bro’s website before you arrive. This will guarantee you a tour at your scheduled time. If you show up to buy tickets on-site, you’ll often end up waiting around, sometimes for quite a while, until the next available tour begins. It’ll also save you a few bucks off the ticket price if you buy them online.
Have Your Camera/Phone Ready
The Central Perk set is obviously a big tour highlight, and the Warner Bros staff is ready to accommodate. They staff an employee by the set to snap a picture of you sitting on the couch, so make sure you have your camera or phone ready to go. You won’t want to miss capturing one of the most amazing moments of your life. 😉
Pro Tip: If visiting the set from Central Perk is pretty much the only reason you’re taking the Warner Bros Studio Tour, make sure you call before booking your tickets to confirm that seeing the set is still included on the day of your visit. While they won’t be able to guarantee what you see out and about on the sound stage due to filming taking place, they should be able to confirm what will be set up in the museum. It’s definitely best to call and check ahead of time, rather than arriving, completing the tour, and realizing that it’s no longer included.
Happy Central Perk caffeinating!
