Here’s a confession: I’m not a make-up girl. It’s not my thing. I don’t like spending money on it; I don’t like spending time on it. I have like 3-5 products that I’ll throw on when I want to look somewhat put together, but anything past that….forget it. Not for me.
I like to invest my money and time elsewhere: in taking care of my skin.
Sunscreen all day every day? Yep!
Exfoliating with a scrub a few times a week? Dang straight!
I love, love, love a good skincare product.
One thing that I haven’t ventured into before is the world of sheet masks. You know…those thin white “sheets” that sort of look like you’ve put one of the old-school pore-clearing strips all over your face? Only instead of unplugging your pores, they revive your skin with a big dose of nutrients that absorb into your skin more easily because of the mask.
When I heard from the Atlanta-based (woohoo!) skincare company BioRepublic about trying out a few of their masks, to say I was merely *excited* would have been a bit of an understatement.
The products that I was able to sample were:
- On the Glow Kit
- No More Years Eternal Radience Mask
- Lost Baggage Under Eye Emergency Repair Mask
Here’s how everything went down when I tried these guys out:
1. On the Glow Kit
The On the Glow Kit was, hands down, my favorite from BioRepublic.
The kit came with 8 sheet masks—2 of each of the following types:
- Cucumber Breeze
- Aloe Rescue
- Green Tea Detox
- Pomegranate Crush
I actually really loved all of these, with my favorite easily being the Cucumber Breeze. It may be because we are right in the middle of summer, but this mask was so refreshing after a long day of running around after my kids in the Atlanta humidity.
The Aloe Rescue was a godsend after a pool day in New Hampshire where I ended up soaking up a little too much sun on my face. While the aloe mask was quite nice on a regular day, it was pure heaven after being outside in the sun. The Green Tea Detox would also make a great option for after a long day, with it’s healing antioxidant properties.
I could see the Pomegranate Crush being my favorite in the fall and winter months…mainly because I down pomegranate on a regular basis when it’s in season and the idea of my sheet mask matching my snack sounds kind of cute.
2. No More Years Eternal Radiance Mask
I’m not a big anti-aging product kinda gal (not yet, at least), so this mask didn’t do a whole lot for me.
It was much thicker than the masks in the On The Glow kit and felt like a more intense treatment, which is probably what you want in an anti-aging product.
I will say that if I ever do start looking into anti-aging products, the sheet mask approach would probably be my preferred way to go about it.
It’s so nice to be able to throw a mask on and let it do the work while you soak in a bubble bath or lounge on the couch in a robe and fluffy socks. And this particular product was much more pleasant than some other anti-aging products that I’ve experienced—the crisp hint of apple was a nice surprise.
3. Lost Baggage Under Eye Emergency Repair Masks
Oh, man. These little guys would have been absolutely perfect for a period of my life that I lovingly refer to as “coffee and concealer“—that time about 2 months after you have a baby and stuff has to start getting done again but you still get no sleep and functioning is hard.
The Lost Baggage Under Eye Emergency Repair Masks go right to work…you guessed it…right underneath your eyes, in that zone that tends to show exhaustion more than anywhere else on your face.
This mini-mask is thicker (like the No More Years mask), which helps the serum get right to work on reducing the appearance of dark circles and bags under your eyes.
This mask will most likely be making its way to my pregnant mama friends in the near future, as I always like to include a little something to encourage some “me time” for the new mom.
Overall—my first experience into the world of sheet masks was a great one, and I’m now completely hooked. If you’re looking for a new way to treat yourself, these masks are a stellar option. Recommend!
